There are only 8 screws you need to remove. This repair will require a T6 torx driver and a number 0 Phillips screwdriver.
1.Power down unit.
2. Remove back cover and take out battery.
3. Flip you sidekick screen halfway to access the two screws that need to be removed. Both have already been removed in this picture. Remove the screws using the T6 torx driver.

4. While still holding the screen in the half flipped position, gently lift the screen up and out.

Warning
Be careful not to touch the copper contacts or the connector. The pins on the connector of the base unit are very fragile.
5. If your replacemnent Sidekick LCD screen has the housing frame on it and it is the same color then skip to step 14. Steps 6 through 13 are for removing the LCD frame from the old sidekick LX lcd Asembly and putting it on the the new one so the colors match.
6. Put the LCD screen assembly upside down on a soft surface (to avoid scratching). There are 6 screws that need to be removed before your can removed the old lcd screen cover. You will need a size 0 Phillips screwdriver for these.
7. Remove the four screws shown in the locations shown below. You will need to rotate the flex cable/spring unit to access the one in the bottom left hand corner.

Sidekick LX LCD repair screws
8. Remove the two small screws holding flex cable to the lcd housing. The 2 in the metal portion in the the picture above. Be careful not to remove the flex cable or spring assembly
9. Flip the screen back over and gently pry the two corners on the bottom of the side with the flex cable.
10. Now that both edges are loose, gently pry along middle of each side to loosen the retainig keys. Once that is done, grab the edge and gently lift the lx screen frame backwards and up.
11. Now, install the sidekick lx lcd screen cover in the reverse order.
12. Once the cover is on, press down firmly on edges to make sure they are snapped into place. You make have to wriggle the cover a bit to seat the screw holes.
13. Flip LCD unit over and install 6 screws you removed earlier. Be sure to move flex swivel unit out of the way for the one screw. Once the screws are in, it is time to reassemble the Sidekick LX.14. Prepare the LCD screen Assembly for installation. Make sure the spring unit is aligned as shown.
Fail to follow this step can cause the screen not to flip properly. If it is not aligned as shown, rotate spring assembly until it is. Sorry, this picture is for a sidekick 3 lcd but it shows the same thing.

15. Rotate the screen to the half flipped postion and install in base of the sidekick LX. Once installed, slowly release the screen and allow to flip into position.
16. Rotate screen to the half flipped position and install the two screws removed in step 3 and tighten them down.
17. Test the flip action of your phone. It if doesn't work right, remove screen and go back to step 14.
18. Once the flip action is working, it is time to reinstall the battery and back cover.
19. Power up you phone and enjoy your Sidekick LX in its in all it's glory.

You will just need a small pry tool. I prefer a plastic guitar pick myself.
Here is a guide for that. http://www.fixmysidekick.com/how-to-replace-the-sidekick-lx-faceplate-and-lcd-lens/144/

I heard you have to take the left screw off first because you can burn out the LCD srcreen is that true or false
January 7th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
If you didn’t power down the device and take your battery out then I guess it would be possible. I have done many of theses and never burned one out.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:00 pm

January 31st, 2009 at 10:07 pm
Make sure the lcd cable is seated well. Also make sure none of the copper pins on the base are bent.
If you have the data service from t-mobile, you contacts will come back. They are stored on the Danger Servers
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:16 pm
I know the flex cable isnt sold seperate, so if i need one i will have to buy the full lcd, and install it for my backlight to work
February 2nd, 2009 at 10:51 pm
Andew-
You can sometimes find them on ebay.
They are a pain in the boot as well to replace!
Usually the it’s the lcd istself is bad vs. the flex cable.
March 16th, 2009 at 10:45 pm
If you successfully replace the the screen, will that erase all your contacts if you dont have the tmobile data service, or do all contracts come with that?

MY sidekick lx screen is just blank. When you turn it on its just black the backlight works but
you cant see anything. I want to know if this is what i need to do or should i get a completely new screen.
April 2nd, 2009 at 9:46 pm
I wanted to see if you could diagnose my problem. I have read through your many posts and don’t beleive my LCD to be bad. My display functions but, when I kick the screen open it fades to black at about half way open. You can see that the LCD is still on but, that perhaps no images aren’t being processed? The buttons all still function and phone works as it should. The only way to get the screen back is to close it and either remove the battery or power down. I have taken the LCD off and re-installed it twice checking connections. I am completely stumped. I have found replacement LCDs on eBay but, at $100 it not really worth it. Any suggestions?

After replacing my LCD, I powered on my phone and now the back light wont turn on. Did I do something horrific or is it reversible? thanks
June 23rd, 2009 at 2:36 pm
Molly-
check the copper contacts of the the phone side. make sure they look ok. If it still odes not work after reseating the phone. contact the person who you bought it from. They may have sold you a faulty screen.
June 26th, 2009 at 1:41 pm
my phone works perfectly fine, but sometimes when i flip it, my screen just fades black. Everything still works but i can’t see anything, any ideas?
June 26th, 2009 at 5:54 pm
The ribbon that billy was talkin about how do i remove it to put on a new lcd?
July 17th, 2009 at 1:44 am
if your screen is just black and not cracked or broken than you can just turn the phone off, take the screen off, then put it back on [but it has to be tight] and turn the phone on and it should work. that’s what i just did, and damn im happy
July 18th, 2009 at 6:11 pm
Hi my sidekick lx was dropped and a few hours later the screen just faded everything works but the screen is just black with a backlight…
July 22nd, 2009 at 11:48 pm
I have a question that have not yet been answered? So if my screen is black compeletly then my lcd is bad. AND Im talking bout to the point were i cant even see the back so i knw it isnt the backlight.
July 26th, 2009 at 11:13 am

August 13th, 2009 at 11:19 pm
